Populist trend in popular piety – threats or opportunities?
Streszczenie
Populism finds its reflection in the structure and mission of the Church, exemplified by Pope Francis’ emphasis on listening to the voice of the faithful. Popular piety, which reflects the cultural and spiritual needs of the community, despite criticism regarding excessive emotionality or a lack of theological depth, plays a significant role in evangelization and community integration, as seen in initiatives such as the Extreme Way of the Cross. At the same time, populist tendencies in liturgical music and devotional practices can lead to theological inaccuracies or a superficial expression of faith, highlighting the need for careful discernment and the implementation of corrections within the life of the Church.
